As the architect behind Nettle’s new café in the historic Port Sunlight conservation area, I took great care to preserve the character of the building, which was originally a bank. The project maintains the integrity of the original exterior façade, respecting the architectural heritage of the area. Inside, the café’s design celebrates the building’s history, with the former bank vault transformed into an intimate, private seating area.
Creative design choices bring an infusion of nature into the space, such as window seats that incorporate swings, offering a playful and relaxed ambiance. Additionally, booths are uniquely designed with integrated trees and enhanced by abundant natural lighting, creating an organic, inviting atmosphere for guests. This blend of preservation and innovative design reflects Nettle’s philosophy of connecting people with nature through mindful, sustainable spaces.
